2024 Fashion Favorites

A look back into this year’s seasonal styles

From clean girl slick backs to the extremely brief “mob wife” aesthetic, we can all agree that 2024 put us through a fashion whirlwind. Before we decide on our wish lists for the upcoming holidays, let's dive back into the year season by season.

Spring and Summer

Last Spring, April showers brought us May flowers in the form of floral maxi skirts. Their comfortable, yet versatile, style can take you from day to night while maintaining a put together look. The floral design adds an essential pop of color to any spring/summer wardrobe.

Whether it was European girl summer or simply wandering into the inviting, caffeinated aroma of a cozy coffee shop, linen sets were perfect for a summer day. They have the same effortless aspect of a sundress, but with linen providing an elevated elegance to the outfit. Additionally, the neutral tone of the fabric left room for fashion fanatics to add their own striking splashes of color, most often found in the controversial Adidas.

Regardless of how many times my Adidas Handball Spezials were called bowling shoes, they're making it to 2025. From hot pink hues in the classic Sambas, to rosy reds in the chunkier Gazelles, Adidas dominated the sneaker trend in 2024.

Fall and Winter

This year’s fall trends were only micro in terms of length, not longevity. Whether it was the white, ruffled mini shorts for Gator game days, or low waisted micro skirts during a night out, the rise of 2024’s micro bottoms will definitely continue into 2025. The simplicity of styling these black and white basics with absolutely anything adds to their indispensability. Likewise, a perk of the pint-sized garments is the space they leave for another 2024 fall favorite: the knee-high black boot.

The recently reinstated knee-high black boot is the perfect shoe to wear from fall to winter. Knee-high, chunky heeled, fold over, and suede: absolutely any style adds a chic, timeless look to an outfit that frat-basement stained sneakers could never.

2024’s wide headband is any slick back hater's best friend. This trend was perfect for hiding the shine from an oily hair day or another way of adding a pop of color to any outfit. By combining cozy with classy, and the subtle resurgence of Y2K, the wide headband is an adorable, cost-effective winter accessory.

I’m almost positive the black boots, mini skirts, and headbands are making it through the next year. However, are the linen sets, floral maxi skirts, and Adidas Spezials set to become the skinny jeans of 2025? Regardless of what stays “on trend” in the upcoming year, I know I'll be re-wearing every piece in my current closet. While I’m interested in the ever-evolving world of fashion, constantly shopping for the latest trend can be unsustainable and takes away from the aspect of fashion meant for expressing personality. My advice for the new year: re-work what you already own and wait until these pieces inevitably make their comeback in the near future.
