Merch Director

As I get ready to graduate, move out of my college apartment and enter the real world, I can’t help but think about how much Rowdy has played a part in my growth as a designer and how much I’ll miss the creative freedom it gave me. When I joined Rowdy last year as a merch designer, I had no idea what to expect. I was nervous to get involved and join the team because of my bad habit of constantly doubting myself. However, as soon as we began to meet up, I knew I was in an environment that I was safe and appreciated in.
I always looked forward to our merch meetings because I got to share my thoughts, ideas and designs with people who were consistently interested in what I had to say. They recognized when I nailed a design, when they knew I could do better and when I needed to dig deeper. This collaborative process was essential in making me become confident and secure in the work I produce, and I am forever grateful for this experience.
Seeing our designs come to life as actual merchandise also created a sense of accomplishment that is hard to replicate. The feeling I would get walking on campus and seeing someone pass by me wearing a tote bag that I took part in creating was unmatched. Because I know how much time, effort, and deliberation went into every detail along the way, I feel extremely proud of myself and the team when I see our work included in someone’s outfit.
Although my time as merch director was short, it was nothing short of memorable. I learned so much about myself in this position, met amazing people and was able to create literal works of art. Thank you for giving me this opportunity, Rowdy.
