Co-Editor in Chief
It’s safe to say that my time as co-editor-in-chief at Rowdy was, as cliché as it sounds, short and sweet. I wish it wasn’t ending just yet, but that’s life; it just keeps on moving and it seems as though I’m constantly playing catch up with it. Yes, I know, I shouldn’t be sitting around and moping —I’m going to Milan for Christ’s sake! But I am sad, because the truth is saying Rowdy saved me would be an understatement.
I missed the two-week application window at the beginning of summer where most departments listed their openings. I knew I wanted to be a part of Rowdy, so I begged Gabi and asked her if there was any way I could get involved. She told me the role of assistant to the Editor-in-Chief was up for grabs and that I should apply. The question, “Is she insane?” flung across my mind when I first read her text, but after some consideration, I decided to apply. I knew I would never be able to forgive myself if I didn’t at least try, and I’m so glad I did — because it led to one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and probably ever will have.
Before joining Rowdy, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I bounced back and forth from idea to idea, never being able to comfortably sit on one for more than two weeks. It felt as if I had the wrong set of keys to all the doors life had to offer. Suddenly, Rowdy became the master key I had long awaited for. The one that would open the doors to many beautiful friendships, a new fiery ambition and a much-needed creative outlet (being a business major and all).
This past semester couldn’t have been more of a — excuse my language — shit show. I’m going to spare the details, but let’s just say the classic idiom, “life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows,” really played its part. It could’ve been worse though, because, after all, I had Rowdy. I was able to work on such a cool project with such cool people and I’m immensely grateful for that.
I want to thank Gabi and Juliette for seeing something in me that I don’t even fully see in myself to this day. Thank you to the directors who keep Rowdy movin’ and groovin’; without them, Rowdy, instead of being organized chaos, would just be plain chaos. And most of all, thank you to Aurora, my partner in crime — the person who kept me on my toes, yet grounded through it all. I truly believe you’ve got what some people like to call a golden brain — one that finds the perfect synchronicity between the left methodical side and the right creative side. You’re an extremely special person and I cannot believe I had the opportunity to work alongside you.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending if you’re a friend or foe, you’re not getting rid of me just yet … I will be back in the spring! So, until then, try not to get too bored without me.
I love you all with my whole entire heart and wish you the best of luck on Volume X,
Lola
