A perfect play-by-play of one of Rowdy’s fav holiday
It’s 4/20, so you know what that means: We’re getting fucking high. Well, I am at least.
Being probably my second-favorite holiday after my own birthday (it’s called self-love), I like to make sure I’m prepared when it rolls around. Now, we’re not talking about the met-gala for stoners here, especially during a panny, but there’s a good chance you might find yourself around a few friends looking to get high today. We’ve compiled a list of some of the essentials for a successful 4/20. Don’t worry, they’re Rowdy-approved.
Finding the Right Rotation
The first part to any 4/20 shindig is finding your rotation. Unless you’re going at it solo with a face mask and a Netflix binge, I recommend you start asking your friends what they’re doing today and if they’re trying to get high. For me, the perfect rotation is bestie vibes only! It only takes one asshole to ruin the rotation, so that one friend who always feels inclined to tell an entire story while they hold the blunt might have to sit this one out.
Stream the Perfect Playlist
Quintessential to a perfect 4/20 is a bomb ass playlist. If you don’t have any playlists, then make a playlist. If you don’t have the patience to make a playlist, then find a friend who makes playlists. And, if you don’t have any friends, then I guess you're out of luck. Sike!
Rowdy has you covered there. Lucky for you, we’ve put together some staff picks for the perfect Spotify playlist to get high to — Apple Music users are not invited to the rotation. We recommend something with chill vibes and a slowed down tempo; anything R&B, indie or from the ‘70s should work just fine. And as required by Rowdy, 2 On is always on the playlist. No questions asked.
Setting the Vibe
Finding the perfect playlist has you on your way to setting the vibe for your 4/20 smoke sesh, but there’s more to it than just that. I know there’s a good chunk of you out there who still have LED strip lights hanging in your living room, so turn those bitches on and shut off that god awful overhead lighting. Next, you’re going to want to christen a brand new, locally poured candle, because who doesn’t appreciate a good scent? Bonus points for lighting Rowdy’s new “Oui’d” candle with our “Fresh Produce” lighter from our 4/20 drop. You better be using it to light your weed, too.
The Snack Setup
You thought we were going to get high and not talk about food? When you’re setting the vibe, consider what the food is going to be. Are you going for gas station snacks, or are you trying to be a gourmet bitch? Regardless of what you choose, you’ve got to have variety. You’ll need some sweet, some savory and salty crunch to finish it all off. And, if you get lazy like me, order some delivery and support a small business! We know one thing for sure: you won’t be going at this with an empty stomach.
Donate!
In between bong rips and hexing Ronald Reagan’s grave for the war on drugs, it’s important to remember the people still being affected by unjust cannabis laws. While it’s refreshing to see America’s marijuana laws becoming more relaxed, we’re witnessing a multi-billion dollar industry continue to grow while over 40,000 people remain in prison for cannabis-related charges. This is why it’s crucial to get educated and donate to causes committed to promoting the legalization of weed and freeing those affected by the unjust war on drugs.
The Last Prisoner Project is a nonprofit dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform. The organization was “founded out of the belief that if anyone is able to profit and build wealth in the legal cannabis industry, those individuals must also work to release and rebuild the lives of those who have suffered from cannabis criminalization.”
It uses a three pronged approach, including intervention, advocacy and awareness campaigns to right the wrongs and continue to fight against the unjust laws and policies that have disproportionately targeted people of color in the U.S.
